Shark Tagging Excursion - Saving the ocean one shark at a time!
What could be more exciting? How about doing everything from prepping the rigging, to reeling in the sharks and even placing the tag onto the shark. This excursion is truly a "hands-on" experience. The funds collected will be used to support the research and education efforts made possible and conducted in collaboration with the Guy Harvey Research Institute and Nova Southeastern University. This excursion is limited to 25 people aboard the vessel so be sure to purchase your tickets well in advance.
What can you expect?
Guy Harvey Research members will teach you how to do each task, and you can choose which tasks you would prefer. You will have opportunities to see, touch, and work with the sharks up close. The primary objective is to collect the data and release the shark before it becomes stressed.
It’s an all day affair, and it’s hard work saving the planet. So we will provide you with a full lunch, beverages and snacks to keep you going. Throughout the day, we will also have some great raffle items to benefit Nova Southeastern University and the Guy Harvey Research Institute. Afterwards, we will finish up and wind down with a few cocktails to celebrate a day of hard work & conservation.
We ask that you arrive no later than 7:30 am, and the boat will depart at 8:00 am, to return around 5:30 pm.
What should you bring?
We encourage you to bring clothes that you do not mind getting fishy or wet. A towel, bathing suit, sunscreen, sunglasses, and your OBEO hat are a must. Engel Coolers will be on board for those who wish to bring drinks and snacks of your own. The NSU and GHRI will take care of the photos, and supply them to you after the trip. No need to bring your camera - keep both hands free. You'll need them to work efficiently!
